1486469 Wrapping articles G D SpA 20 Nov 1974 [21 Nov 1973] 50278/74 Heading B8C A wrapping machine comprises opposed guides 5, 6 between which an article P and an overlying wrapper are fed upwardly to fold the wrapper into U-form about the article, an intermittently movable wrapping head 7 having pairs of grippers 8, 9 which receive the U- wrapped article from the guides 5, 6 during a dwell period of the wrapping head and grip the article through the wrapper, an oscillatable folding blade 10, carrying folding fingers 12, 13, for folding portions of the wrapper against the previously uncovered lower, front and rear faces of the article, a stationary folding blade 14 and stationary folding fingers 16, 17 for folding further portions of the wrapper against said lower, front and rear faces of the article upon movement of the partially wrapped and gripped article therepast, and folding members 18, 19, 20, 21 for folding trapezium shaped flaps, resulting from the previous folding operations, against said front and rear faces of the article. The articles are fed below the opposed guides 5, 6 by an intermittently rotatable conveyer plate 1 from which they are removed and fed between the guides 5, 6 by pusher and counter pusher members 3, 4. The folding is completed between said above mentioned dwell period and the next dwell period of the wrapping head 7. The wrapper is maintained in its folded condition, as the wrapped article is fed towards a discharge station of the wheel 7, by a guide 15 which may be heated for glue drying or heat-sealing, and extensions of the folding fingers 16, 17. At the discharge station, the wrapped articles are released by the grippers 8, 9 and fed by an oscillatable pusher member 22 into a channel 25 from which the wrapped articles are delivered to devices which form batches of a predetermined number of articles for subsequent wrapping in common outer wrappers. |
