The stepless speed variation drive uses bi-conical rollers to transmit the drive between friction discs. It has input gears with teeth made from reinforced platicis. The gears have a steel hub(3', 4') which is clamped to a tapered shaft (5, 6). The hubs are moulded into plastic rings (17) with gear teeth formed around the periphery. The plastics is a polyimide which has a coefficient of expansion approximately equal to that of steel. Plastic gears reduce noise and the shocks due to acceleration when changing speed, and also prevent slip between the rollers and the friction discs.
|
