<p>PURPOSE:To recover Hg easily and efficiently with a minimized amt. of by-products by electrically reducing a V<3+> or VO<3+>-contg. electrolytic soln. to form V<2+>; contacting the V<2+> to a slightly sol. Hg salt to deposit Hg; and circulating the yielded V<3+>-contg. electrolytic soln. after electrolytic reductin. CONSTITUTION:V<3+> or VO<3+>-contg. electrolytic soln. 9 and slightly sol. Hg salt layer 4 such as Hg2Cl2 are charged into the electrolytic cell provided with Hg pool 5 as cathode 3, Pt wire 2 as anode 1, satd. calomel electrode 6 as potential detecting reference electrode 7, and glass filters 8-8'''. Layer 4 is contacted to pool 5. Next the soln. is electrolytically reduced while flowing N2 through inlets 12 to deposit Hg according to the following equations: V(III)+e V(II) and V(II)+ Hg(I) V(III)+Hg.</p> |
