<p>Continuous bar forming press includes a die unit and means for introducing a selective amount of powdered metal into the die cavity. A ram and punch are reciprocable to and from the die. Up and down limit switches are engaged by the ram to control and reverse the movement of the ram in response to the engagement of one of the switches. On the advance stroke the ram moves the punch into the die cavity. The down limit switch can be relocated to adjust the length of each advance stroke of the ram and punch in direct proportion to the reaction pressure during that stroke. A green compact rod of uniform physical characteristics along its length can be obtained. Substantial green strength is obtained in the bar so that it can be handled in the green state without disintegration particularly when being forced out of the die and through the sintering furnace.</p> |
