The air conditioning unit of the vehicle has the compressor linked to the supply by a special control switch which is opened whenever the starter motor is operated and which is switched off when the vehicle is switched off. The system ensures that maximum battery power is available for starting. If the ignition is switched off the control resets the compressor switch to the 'off' setting so that it does not come on again when the ignition is next switched on, and subsequently drains part of the battery power.
