The windsurfer mast safety mounting comprises a sleeved blind hole in the hull and a mast foot in two parts (45, 49) linked by a cylindrical block (Z) of highly elastic material (e.g EPDM rubber) constituting a universal coupling. A spigot on the lower part (45) fits the hull sleeve. A collar (43) at the root of the spigot, or enlargement at the top of the sleeve, raises the mast foot so that the join between the two parts is at least 70 mm, pref. 80 - 120 mm, above the deck. Where a sleeve-enlargement is used, this can have a sloping surface.
