PURPOSE:To prepare the title polymer having improved storage stability, by copolymerizing chloroprene monomer with an unsaturated glycidyl ester monomer in the presence of a mercaptocarboxylic acid in a uniform solution system. CONSTITUTION:100 parts by wt. of a monomer mixture consisting of (A) 99.5- 85wt.% of chloroprene (C) or a monomer copolymerizable with C and (B) 0.5- 15wt.% of an unsaturated glycidyl ester monomer expressed by formula (R is H or 1-12 Calkyl group) is copolymerized in the presence of 0.3-3.5 parts by wt. of thioglycolic acid and a mercaptocarboxylic acid in an amount within the range equivalent to the thioglycolic acid in an organic solvent having a boilng point <= 150 deg.C under ordinary pressure selected from aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic halogenated hydrocarbons, and cyclic ethers in an amount of 20-200 parts by wt. per 100 parts by wt. of the total monomers and a radical polymerization initiator at 0-100 deg.C to give a self-curing liquid chloroprene polymer having one or more carboxyl groups and 1-2.5 epoxy groups in the molecule and a number-average molecular weight of 3,000-20,000. |
