[Also in Division F4] Coal is fed to a furnace inlet 10 from a hopper 101 having a wall 103 inclined to the horizontal at not less than 45 degrees, and carrying an adjustable plate 104 regulating the position of the free surface 108 of the coal supported on the bottom wall 119 of the hopper. An agitator comprising rotating wings 112 skims the coal surface to feed coal to the inlet 10. When the inlet 10 is full the feed of coal stops without fuel in the furnace being subject to the pressure of the coal in the hopper.</p> |
