The electric current producing appts. uses water or some other source of energy to move a small diameter hydraulic piston. This in turn moves a larger diameter piston, which is linked by a crank mechanism to a toothed sector. This engages a pinion which is arranged to charge a spring. The spring is then connected to a gear train. The final output shaft drives an electric generator, producing an electrical output when the stored energy of the spring is released.
