Broken glass fibre joining - by water jet severing droplet and blowing fibre towards deflection pulley

Glass fibres which have broken in a continuous filament fibre drawing process are joined up before the fibre strand leaves the machine by directing the droplets formed by a conical funnel to a point where a water jet severs the droplets. The filament is directed towards a first deflection pulley and joins the strand of fibres. It is drawn out to the right thickness before it leaves at a second deflection pulley. The arrangement saves special joining drums for broken fibres which are expensive, wear rapidly and demand much maintenance.
