<p>Carbonylated products, particularly esters and acids, are obtained utilizing alcohols as starting material. The alcohol is treated with carbon monoxide in the presence of a metal phthalocyanine catalyst and two or more promoters therefor, for example a sulfonyl group and an alkyl or aralkyl halide, at carbonylation conditions, and the resulting carbonylated product is recovered. A sulphonate group attached to the phthalocyanine may comprise one of the promoters. Group VIII metals, for example cobalt, rhodium or iridium, are preferred.</p> |
