PURPOSE:To prepare a xanthomycin-family antibiotic substance A-5945, useful as a disinfectant for apparatus, and remedy for infectious diseased, having strong growth-inhibiting activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, by the cultivation of novel species belonging to Streptomyces genus. CONSTITUTION:Fungi belonging to streptomyces genus, and capable of producing xanthomycin-family antibiotic substance A-5945, e.g. Streptomyces sp. nov. sp. A- 5945 (FERM-P No.4172), are cultured in a nutrient medium under aerobic condition, and the antibiotic substance A5945 is separated from the medium. The characteristics of the substance are as follows: dark red basic powder; elementary an alysis; C: 56.8%, H:6.9%, N:8.5%; molecular weight 340; specific rotation in ethanol [alpha]<25>D (C=0.383)=+282 deg.. |
