In order to be able to open both parts of a double window either by tilting or pivoting, it is known to connect the inner sash and outer sash to one another via two connecting struts, by means of which the two window sashes are coupled together. However, it was necessary to provide special release mechanisms for the pivot and tilt bearings, which release mechanisms additionally had to be actuated. The invention proposes the design of a double window in which it is possible to effect a pivot and tilt movement and to lock the window in the closed position simply by actuating a window handle. To this end, a third connecting strut (19) is provided between the inner sash (3) and outer sash (2), which connecting strut (19) is secured in a fixed manner on one window sash and secured on the other in a releasable manner by means of horizontal movement. In addition, the outer sash (2) is connected to the storey frame (1) by means of a concertina arm (23) which forms the upper pivot axis (28) of this window sash. The concertina arm (23) can be swivelled together with the window sash (2) at its one end and is connected at its other end by a spring catch connection (25, 26) which can be released under tension. <IMAGE>
