Float operated valve for water cisterns - has pilot valve acted on by float to change pressure balance in main valve

A float-operated valve is designed for operation esp. with water cisterns. It comprises a main valve (9, 10), biased into the closed position by supply pressure acting through a balance chamber (6) connected to the water supply (7) through a pilot valve (5). The float acts on the pilot valve. On release of water from the cistern the float drops and opens the pilot valve. Water then flows from the balance chamber and causes the main valve to open under supply pressure. On filling of the cistern the float closes the pilot valve and causes supply pressure to close the main valve.
