<p>(I) is added as modifying agent to aminoplast precondensates used for surfacing wood based panels. The (I) is added at 1-20 wt.% on the amino resin. The laminating resin used is pref. a melamine-formaldehyde resin. The (I) may be condensed into the resin during mfre. or it may be added to the impregnating bath. The modified aminoplast resins are used for impregnating overlay papers of the type used for surfacing wood based panels such as chipboard. (I) has an excellent plasticising effect in the cured amino resin and gives cured resin films having excellent water and weather resistance coupled with increased resistance to cracking and cracking. (I) does not retard the cure of the amino resin or cause instability of the impregnating bath, and does not cause contamination of the drier used to dry the impregnated laminating film. The flow of the molten resin is improved and the cured resin has improved transparency, so that the printed pattern of decorative overlay papers is given increased brilliance.</p> |
