<p>Alpha-olefin polymerisation catalyst consists of (A) a Ti compsn. and (B) an organo-Al cpd. of formula AlR3mH3-m (in which R3 is a 1-12C alkyl, 1.5 = m =3). The Ti compsn. is obtd. by thermal treatment of a co-comminuted mixt. of 10-95, pref. 20-90 wt. % Mg halide and 90-5, pref. 80-10 wt. % complex of an Al halide of a carboxylic ester of formula R1COOR2 (in which R1 and R2 each are 1-12C aromatic, aliphatic or alicyclic gps.) with Ti Cl4 Used for (co)polymerisation of alpha-olefins esp. for homopolymerisation of 3-12C alpha-olefins, copolymer- of alpha-olefins and block or statistical copolymerisation of alpha-olefins, with ethylene. Suitable alpha-olefins include propylene, 1-butylene, 1-hexene and 4-methylpentene-1. The catalyst has high activity, is suitable for the non-de-ashing process and can give poly-alpha-olefins with high crystallinity.</p> |
