Heady duty electrical resistances (3) are fabricated in an insulating jacket (4) which surrounds the conducting resistance. The material of the insulating jacket is chosen to have high thermal conductivity. To assist in the dissipation of heat from the resistance wings (6) are secured to the outside of the jacket (4). The wings are constructed from strip metal folded along its longitudinal axis into a deep 'U'-shaped cross section into which the jacketed resistance is layed. The side panels of the strip are then crimped and secured (5) with their free ends splayed (6) to form the wings.
