#CMT# #/CMT# Preparing a carbon precursor for densification of carbon composite comprises mixing a pitch and a solvent, separating the obtained solid phase from the liquid phase and recovering the liquid phase as an impregnation solution for the preparation of the precursor. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The carbon precursor is useful for densification of carbon composite (claimed), particularly carbon-carbon composite, which is useful to make cloth for panel drapes and impregnated threads for making composite containers. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: The process further comprises removing insolubilities of the liquid phase by centrifugation after the mixing and recovering steps, impregnating the obtained solution in to fibers at ambient temperature, followed by a heating the fibers at 900[deg] C, storing the solution in prior to the impregnation step, treating the heat-treated fibers in the oven at 1100-2000[deg] C, preferably 1150[deg] C for 30 minutes to 4.30 hours, preferably 1 hour and passing the impregnated fibers in to an impregnation system before the heat-treatment. The mixing process is carried out using 1 liter of the solvent for 400-600 g of the pitch until the boiling point of the solvent (such as quinoline). The separation step is carried out by cooling the obtained solution. Preferred Components: The pitch is a synthetic pitch, particularly mesophasic pitch of an average molecular of 1000-15000 in which 12-20 mol.% of the molecules having an average molecular weight of less than 600, 55-70 mol.% of the molecules having an average molecular weight of 600-1500 and 20-30 mol.% of the molecules having a molecular weight >= 1500. The atomic ratio of hydrogen to carbon is 0.1:1. The atomic ratio of hydrogen to aromatic carbon is >= 0.7. The pitch comprises 90% of an optical anisotropic phase. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# No suitable example given. |
