The space-retainer is for reinforcing units used in reinforced-concrete construction, and comprises a block-type shaped piece made of concrete, asbestos, cement, artificial stone or similar, with open edge receses permitting its insertion onto reinforcing rods. Use is made of spring members (4), inserted or formed inside, protruding at least into the open edge area (3) of the recesses (2), where they are elastically bendable and serve as barrier elements. These may be wire or leaf springs. The shaped pieces (1) can incorporate slits (6) for insertion of one end of the spring member, which can then be locked or cast in position, the slits may open into the recesses, and be widened at their closed end. Secure positioning on the reinforcement is provided by simple means, with no possibility of unintentional detachment.
