PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asbestos melt-treating method which melts asbestos even if a temperature of heated asbestos is low and reduces a treating cost, and also to provide a device therefor. SOLUTION: A microwave heating furnace 1 has opening and shutting doors 2a and 2b at both its side plates 1a, 1b. A microwave-transmitting device 3 is installed on the ceiling board 1c of the microwave heating furnace 1 and transmits microwaves into the microwave heating furnace 1. The microwave-transmitting device 3 is controllablely turned on or turned off by a temperature-controlling device 4. A crucible 7 is a ceramic container which absorbs the energy of microwaves, and asbestos 5, which is packed in a combustible and tightly closable bag, is fed into the crucible 7. An alkali agent (a melting agent), in which sodium nitrate, calcium nitrate and calcium carbonate are each mixed at a prescribed ratio of 9, 10 and 16, respectively, is added to the crucible 7.
