<p>A vehicle fuel usage, or energy usage, or running cost meter, depending on the precise format of display chosen, is used. The meter is intended to provide the vehicle drive with running information by means of which he can improve the economical performance of his driving. Two basic parameters are monitored, namely the fuel flow in terms typically of litres per hour, or equivalently kilowatt hours per hour and vehicle speed in terms typically of kilometres or miles per hour. These readings are supplied to mechanical or electronic calculator which displays a figure typically representing the cost per kilometre of th journey being undertaken. A table of certain performance characteristics of a number of different car makes is provided.</p> |
