The inverted 'Y' section member may be of steel and is formed by re-rolling standard railway line sections. The member is for use on composite steel and concrete sleepers, i.e. sleepers comprising two concrete blocks joined by a steel member. The 'Y' section has similar structural properties in the vertical or horizontal axis and reduces corrosion. The top flange (2) of the section may be triangular and all corners (4, 5, 6) are rounded to avoid fissure-corrosion. The angle between the two convergent components (3) of the bottom flange may be between 90 deg. and 180 deg. and is ideally 120 deg. The lower convergent faces of the top flange may be parallel to the faces of the diagonally opposed bottom flange component.
|
