<p>A digitally controlled accelerating and retarding system for machine tools, automatic curve tracing, magnetic disc drives, etc. is designed to achieve acceleration or retardation to a defined speed in a shorter time and with less energy consumption than with current systems. The position and speed of the controlled object are measured and the movement controlled using a relation between desired position, actual position, and actual speed. In acceleration mode a demand for constant acceleration and a demand for constant speed in the same direction are calculated and summed to produce the demand signal. In deceleration mode the constant acceleration and speed demands are of opposite sign and similarly summed.</p> |
