Sealing device for a coke oven door uses a single seal which is attached to the sides of the door and co-operates with a sealing strip which is attached adjustably to the door frame. The seal is an elastic element and the sealing strip is a rigid element with a lead-in chamber for the seal. Such a sealing device retains its tightness over long service periods. The seals remain elastic for longer times and can be replaced very easily if required.
