<p>In contrast to conventional procedures, chipboards are not coated with glass fibres impregnated with synthetic resin, but instead, (1) the glass fibre fleeces are replaced by wood veneers saturated with synthetic resin, (2) one veneer is applied to each surface of the chip board, (3) on each surface of the chip board an equal number of veneers is applied, (4) a different number of veneers is applied to one side as compared with the other, (5) the same number of veneers is applied to each surface with their grains running indifferent directions, (6) only one side of the board is coated with one or a number of veneers. Boards of 2.5 x 12 m are produced for container and vehicle bodies, and to give the required strength, >=450 g of glass fibre fleece plus 1,000 g of synthetic resin per m2 necessary. The price of veneers is 60% below that of glass fibre fleeces, whilst 50 to 70% less resin is required to impregnated the veneers. The saving in weight is 30%.</p> |
