1,264,688. Speech synthesis. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 13 Aug., 1969 [27 Aug., 1968], No. 40395/69. Heading H4R. In a speech synthesizer in which speech segments are stored and reproduced as required in compressed or expanded form the fundamental frequency contour of the speech is modified when the speed of the reproduced speech differs from that of the originally stored speech. Preferably when the speech is speeded up on replay the high frequency components of the fundamental frequency contour are attenuated while if the speech is slowed down, or expanded, the high frequency components are amplified. As described the signal controlling the fundamental, or pitch, frequency of the reproduced speech in a vocoder type synthesizer is fed through a circuit as shown in Fig. 3 including an operational amplifier 51 with frequency conscious networks in the input and feedback paths, the capacitor 53 in the input path being variable, to change the characteristic from integrating to differentiating in dependence on a control signal which varies with the speed ratio of the reproduced speech relative that stored. |
