<p>The strut has a threaded inner bar (2) sliding inside an outer tube. Locking in compression is attained by a toothed catch (8) pressed against the inner bar (2) by the transverse component of the pressure of the inclined edge (7) on the catch (8). The latch is lightly spring-loaded against the inner bar. A sliding component (15) between the inner bar (2) and the outer tube separates the catch from the inner bar when the strut is fully extended. The strut can be fully closed so that the inclined surface (17) pushes the slide (15) upwards, re-engaging the catch (8). The strut may now be extended to the required length.</p> |
