Dispensing viscous material, e.g. dough, mince, potato salad, etc. - using an iris shutter with infinitely variable aperture and speed

Predetermined portions of a coherent viscous material are dispensed from supply under constant pressure; the material being forced through the outlet of a periodically opening and closing valve. The valve is formed by a movable diaphragm of the iris shutter-type, and the max, aperture and the duration of opening are adjusted to the pressure on the material. The portions delivered thus have a predetermined form. The advice has a tube for feeding the viscous material with overpressure, and there is a mechanism for operating a valve on the wall of the tube. The iris shutter works with an adjustable eccentric or crank or cam arrangement driven by a motor through an infinitely variable gearbox. A doctor is also provided immediately in front of the shutter outside the feed tube. When the valve is closed, this removes any particles of material adhering. This automates the process and makes it unnecessary to have an experienced person operating the machine.
