<p>1465392 Solasodine and glycosides thereof ESCUELA POLITECNICA NACIONAL 11 Feb 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 06137/74 Heading C2U The invention comprises a process for preparing a solution of a solasodine glycoside (e.g. solasonine or solamargine) from an aqueousalcoholic extract of a fruit containing the glycoside, by removing a major part (preferably all) of the alcohol from the extract (e.g. by distillation) and precipitating impurities (e.g. by adding or distilling off water and/or cooling) which may be removed by filtration or centrifugation. The glycosides may be precipitated from the resultant solution by adding aq. ammonia or aq. sodium hydroxide. The fruit may be of a plant of the stellate Lepstostemonum group, e.g. "huapag" or "tree solanum", and may be fresh or dried, and cut or broken provided that rupture of the seeds is minimized. The extractant may comprise MeOH, EtOH or i-PrOH. Solasodine is prepared from the obtained glycosides (or the above purified solution thereof) by acidolysis (e.g. with HCl) in aqueous isopropanol, precipitation of the product (e.g. by adding sodium or potassium hydroxide or carbonate) and isolation (e.g. by filtration or centrifugation).</p> |
