The table has a full-length rigid table top (1) which is connected on one side along its edge to at least three spaced cables (2-5) and on the other side within the polygon spanned by the cables to at least one further cable. These cables are then anchored firmly in the ceiling (10) on the one side and in the floor (11) on the other side so as to provide a completely firm table surface with the max. leg room beneath. Since the thin cables are inconspicuous the final effect is of a table floating in space. The cables are firmly braced before anchorage to prevent any undue movement of the table top.
