The lifting-sliding window requires elevation before sliding can be effected and includes a handle-operated lifting mechanism, and also has an anti-lift lock. The lifting mechanism lifts the sash (1) from a depressed closure position, with a bolt (5) engaging a fixed staple (6) to prevent sliding at closure. The anti-lift lock prevents unauthorised lifting from without, and uses a lateral motion of the lifting mechanism (3) to effect the interlocking or disengagement of laterally interlocking components. The anti-lift lock comprises an angle iron (17) which is fixed to the frame post (13). As the sash drops into the closure position an extremity of the closure mechanism (3) moves into a trapped position beneath the horizontally cantilevering leg (16) of the angle-iron (17). Alternatively the frame post may incorporate a conical socket which is entered by a reciprocal projection from the sash-post.
