The spokes of the wheel are formed from tubular section metal which is pressed into an elliptical shape for most of its length and has pressed heads (4) at the ends. This clip into slots in the wheel rim and hub. The elliptical profile reduces the wind drag of the wheel without affecting the strength of the spokes. The head ends are pressed from a rounded section which smoothly run into the elliptical section for improved strength. The mounting of the spoke on each side of the wheel is such that they form a smooth with the edges of the tyre to reduce drag and wind noise even further.
