1534919 Rocket motors PAINS WESSEX Ltd 25 Feb 1977 [11 March 1976] 09853/76 Heading F3A A rocket motor comprises a primary igniter 6 to the rear of solid propellant 5 and a secondary igniter 7 at the forward end for ignition by the primary igniter. Modifications to the illustrated arrangement of the secondary igniter are described (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The propellant 5 preferably is hollow and spaced from the peripheral wall of a casing 1 so as to afford a large-area burning surface. Ignition of the secondary igniter 7 can be by flame transfer along a central passage 5a or by combustible material extending between the two igniters. Various geometric shapes of suitable propellant charge are described (Figs. 5-9, not shown). Gas outlet passages 4 in a casing rear wall 2 are inclined in order to effect spin stabilization. The primary igniter 6 is a friction igniter or percussion primer.
