<p>The system regulates the tension in a strip of paper to avoid distortion caused by uneven lengthwise tension over its width, as it is pulled off a storage roll. An even and constant braking pressure is applied to the opposite ends of the storage roll (12, 15) as this is unwound, the braking pressure being limited to a figure between 10 and 80 lbs (sq. in (0.7-5.6 kg/cm2). The braking pressure is kept at a constant low figure, to give the maximum lengthwise tension on the paper strip (12'). It can be such as to exert a torque of between 10 and 190 ft/lbs (1.3-24.7kgm) at each end of the storage roll.</p> |
