1362596 Vulcanizing halogen-containing elastomers POLYSAR Ltd 17 Jan 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 2136/72 Headings C3E and C3P A mixture comprising (1) an essentially saturated elastomer having reactive halogen atoms in the alpha-position to carbonyl or ethylenically-unsaturated carbon atoms, (2) a hydroxide of a metal of Group Ia or IIa and (3) sulphur or a sulphur-releasing substance is vulcanized. Examples are given in which a compounded ethyl acrylate-vinyl chloroacetate elastomer or bromobutyl rubber is vulcanized using calcium hydroxide, lithium hydroxide or barium hydroxide together with sulphur as vulcanizing agent and the said elastomer is also vulcanized using calcium hydroxide and dipentamethylene thiuram tetrasulphide. |
