The sealed (9) traction joint is of the spigot (2) and socket (1) type, may be used on cast iron pipes, and provides a relatively flexible joint with metallic discontinuity obviating electrolytic corrosion. Traction is applied by cam-tailed (28) bolts (26) and nuts (29) acting on the socket (1) flange (7) and a floating collar (20-26). The latter bears on a stop ring (10) which is bonded (18) to the spigot pipe barrel (2). The stop ring (10) may have a spherical bearing surface (17) whereby contact is made with an inner conical face (25) of the floating collar, and may inc opposed chamfered lower edges (13, 14). The section of the stop ring (10) is such that the annular adhesive filled volume (18) is of tapered cross-section with the greater thickness of adhesive facing the spigot (2) end.
