The self-stabilizing 'rocking' high chair or cradle is for use by infants, and permits the occupant to rock the unit without overturning. The chair (2) is mounted on a pedestal block (1) with a rounded e.g. spherically segmental base, and the pedestal (1) contains liquid or solid ballast which lowers the effective centre of gravity. The base may include a circular projecting girdle head (4) which limits the extent of pedestal (1) rotation. The pedestal includes a wheel (5) on a projecting arm, and which can be used to push the chair when sufficiently inclined.
