Absorber plate for solar radiation energy collector - has profiled aluminium sections slotted together with H-shaped joining strips

The absorber plate is contained in the centre of a rectangular collector box with a transparent cover and thermally insulated sides and base. It is assembled from a series of identical profiled sections (1, 2, 3) which are slotted together by means of H shaped joining strips (4). Each section has two flat zones (7) with a hollow circular piece (5) between them forming a tube through which water to be heated can flow. The inside of the tubular section (5) is lined with a copper pipe (6) to avoid contact between the water and aluminium which could cause corrosion. The construction provides an effective absorber with a large area which is cheap to produce. Heat absorbed over a wide area is conducted to the water.
