<p>1473357 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN - UND STAHLWERKE - ALPINE MONTAN AG 25 July 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 32908/74 Heading B3F In a plant for continuously casting metal such as steel, the strand 1 is guided and supported from a mould by rollers 3 betwen cooling spray nozzles 4, 5, there being shields 6, 7 movable to the strand to be spaced from it to cover parts of it against the spray. The shields are of sheet iron and have openings 8 so that portions 6, 7 of the shields can be inserted between the rollers 3. To vary the cooling, e.g. to avoid distortion of the strand 1, a thermometer 9, 10 is used to detect temperature variations at the strand edges and control the use of the shields 6, 7. Shields shaped for round and T-shaped castings are described the shields 6, 7 are moved by cylinders 21, electromagnetically driven spindles or articulated levers and may be connected for movement by a single mechanism.</p> |
