The anti-deflagration joint is for use in explosive atmospheres and prevents flames from within a vessel escaping to the surrounding atmospheres. The two parts of the joint (2, 3) are separated by a small gap of about 0.1 mm wide. In addition recesses (10, 11) are formed in the joint faces which create a turbulence in the flow (f) of the flammable gas. The incorporation of the recesses (10, 11) into the joint permits the use of much larger tolerances in the dimensions (i) of the gap than is the case with joints not having these recesses. In addition the recesses trap any solid incandescent particles. The joint is particularly suitable for use with hydrogen.
|
