The part (1) of the electrode employed for rough machining is mounted on the part (2) of the electrode employed for finish machining; and (1) can easily be removed from (2). (1) is pref. made of graphite, whereas (2) is made of an electrically-conducting metal or cpd., esp. copper which is also used to feed electric current to (1). (1) pref. contains four blind holes used to locate four long steel rods soldered onto a plate used to mount the electrode on the driven head of a spark-erosion machine, the workpiece being clamped on the table of the machine. The two parts of the electrode are pref. joined together by a conducting adhesive and are sepd. by heating the adhesive with a flame. (1) is used for the very rapid spark erosion of the workpiece and is then removed so the Cu part produces the finished dimension. This means that only one electrode needs to be aligned in the spark erosion machine, saving time, but the required finish is obtd., e.g. in a cavity in the workpiece.
|
