Supersonic axial compressor with the flow section formed by a compressor housing containing a vaned inlet guide apparatus and with at least one supersonic stage consisting of a flywheel and a vaned guide apparatus and with at least one subsonic stage having a flywheel and a guide positioned behind each other in the direction of the flow of the medium to be compressed. Each vane (10) of the inlet system (2) has an angle, below which the profile of the cross section located on the circumference standing vertical to the vane or blade, which lies in relation to the vector of the circumferential speed of the supersonic flywheel (5) which is greater than 90 degress, smaller than 90 degress or about equal to 90 degress with the cross section positions varying with the curvature of the central sector of the profile limiting line central cross section being zero.
