The non-linear resistance element contains a core, which is in the form of a prism, consists of semiconductor material, contains zinc oxide (ZnO), has good linearity and has a high dielectric constant. An electrically insulating coating is provided which covers one side surface of the semiconducting element, this coating containing a spinel (Zn7Sb2/3O4). The resistance element also contains electrodes which are fitted on opposite end surfaces of the semiconducting core. Such a resistance element withstands large current pulses better.
