Stabilising halogen-contg. vinyl polymers - with mixt. of tin cpd., hydrogen chloride acceptor and organic chelating agent

Stabiliser combination for halogen-cntg. vinyl polymers consists of (a) an Sn cpd. having formula SnX4 (where X are opt. identical organic gps. bonded to Sn via atoms other than C); (b) an HCl acceptor; and (c) an organic chelating agent. Pref. 0.2-30 wt. % stabiliser is used. consisting of 0.1-4% (a), 0.01-20% (b) and 0.1-5% (C). Used in heat - and light-stabilised polymers include vinyl chloride (co)polymers and chlorinated polymers. The synergetically acting stabiliser combination is easily prepd. Decomposition prods. are non-toxic and the presence of (b) prevents SnCl4 formation and auto-catalytic decomposition of Cl-contg. vinyl polymer. The chelator (c) coordinatively saturates Sn. A pref. compsn. contains 0.1-4 pts. wt. Sn tetra-isooctyl thioglycolate, 0.01-20 pts. wt. MgO and 0.1-5 pts. wt. Na gluconate or di-Na ethylene diamine tetraacetate (w.r.t. polymer wt.).
