A variable-geometry system (52) for a gas turbine engine (10) can be used to improve operations in various inclement weather conditions. This may be achieved by varying the orientation of an element (28) in a gas turbine engine flowpath (40) in response to a comparison (80) between sensor-gathered parameter data and stored parameter values and ranges using a preprogrammed algorithm (76). The orientation of the element (28) may be infinitely variable within a range of orientations (108).
