A dose of plasticised resin is extruded freely downwards between a pair of mould components which can close horizontally onto the resin to form it. To freeze the moulding, pref. to about 30 degrees C, coolant is circulated through the mould blocks - to reheat the mould blocks pref. to about 150 degrees C, when they part to release a moulding they are drawn back to contact heating blocks maintained at a higher temperature. Pref. the mould allows a small web of resin to link successive mouldings into a chain. Esp. for production of dials or discs. Offers reduced cycle times arising from rapid temperature swing because the ancillary heated blocks are not involved with moulding chilling.
|
