Production of longitudinally welded pipes out of plane sheet metal blanks

A sheet metal blank (B) is introduced into semicylindrical gaps in two opposing form tool halves and is formed and held in place by the latter while its closed longitudinal edges are joined by welding. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus comprising a forming tool made up of tool halves (2, 3) which are movable towards one another on a tool carrier (1), and consist of outer and inner shells (8, 10) with a semicylindrical gap (9) between them for the sheet metal blank (B) to be formed. It further includes a welding unit which above the forming tool is movable along the edges of the blank formed and held in place the forming tool.
