PURPOSE:To stabilize electrostatic charging characteristic, to enhance output and to restrain the vibration of a grid electrode by forming a preliminary electrostatically charged area on a substance to be electrostatically charged by a 2nd electrostatic charger and adding a desired charge to the electrostatically charged area by a 1st electrostatic charge. CONSTITUTION:By pushing a copying start switch, a photosensitive drum 1 starts to rotate and a transfer charger 8 combined with the 2nd electrostatic charger starts to electrostatically charge the surface of the drum 1 after a voltage is impressed on the charger 8 from a power source 32. The preliminary electrostatically charged area formed on the drum 1 passes a separation charger 9, a cleaning device 10 and an erasing device 11 and reaches below the grid electrode 4 of the electrostatic charger 2. When it reaches there, the charger 2 starts to act. Since a potential difference between the electrode 4 and the drum 1 is made small by thus doing, the vibration of the electrode 4 which is a trouble in practical use is prevented. |
