[Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Paper like microcellular thermoplastic film obtained by making a film composed of a thermoplastic resin and a water-soluble polymer of ethylene oxide, contacting the film with water to leach out some of the polyethylene oxide and impregnating with a foaming agent which is subsequently decomposed may be coated by similar methods to those used on conventional pulp papers. The film can be treated with strengthening agents e.g. melamine-urea resins, polyvinyl acetate or chloride, phenoxy or acrylic resins, butadiene polymers, natural or synthetic rubbers; water repellents e.g. rosin size, paraffin wax, or silicone resins; water-proofing agents e.g. polyvinyl chloride polystyrene or asphalt; welting agents, e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose, celluronic acid; and finishers such as starch casein and melamine resins.</p> |
