摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the gain of optical amplification without deteriorating the input level of a transmission signal and light for photoexciting to optical fibers by constituting the entire part of the amplifier of the optical fibers so that the mode fields of the propagation light in a juncture are nearly coincident. CONSTITUTION:One end near the connecting end of the optical fiber 14 for optical amplification is heated by a microburner, etc., to diffuse the dopant, i.e. Ge ions, of the core and is thereby equaled nearly to the core diameter of the optical fiber 17b for transmission. The central part of the core diffused part of the optical fiber 14 for optical amplification where the core is diffused is then cut and is fusion spliced to the optical fiber 17b for transmission. Therefore, the amplifier is fully constituted of the optical fibers. The amplifier is obtd. and in addition, the light intensity density of the signal light for transmission and the photoexciting light in the optical fiber 14 for optical amplification is increased. The efficiency of the optical amplification gain is improved in this way without deteriorating the input level of the transmission signal light and the photoexciting light to the optical fibers.
